Sunday nights are awful for seeing shows... Unless it's Brass Menagerie and Vagabond Opera at Amnesia on Sunday the 15th at 9pm! (only $7 cover) Who could pass up a "Balkan Brass Band" and "Eastern-European, klezmer-based original, jazz and belly dance music", all under one roof?
Posted on October 13, 2006 04:18 PMi must admit to being absurdly tempted by a "Balkan Brass Band" and "Eastern-European, klezmer-based original, jazz and belly dance music".
is anyone else going with you?
Posted by: michele on October 13, 2006 06:55 PMholy shit, have you listened to Brass Menagerie? so good! i am in! though much less impressed by the vegabond opera.
Posted by: michele on October 13, 2006 07:00 PMI have listened to the Brass Menagerie! They're great! I was similarly underwhelmed by Vagabond Opera. They sounded a little flat (not in pitch, but in feeling).
At the moment, it's just me. But it could be me and you, if you Know What I Mean.
Hello, Eric from Vagabond Opera here. If you ended up going I wonder if you were still underwhelmed by our live performance. Just curious, as we had a blast.
Posted by: Eric Stern on October 24, 2006 03:34 AMIn fact, I was not underwhelmed at all. The show at Amnesia was great. Somehow the energy of the live show just didn't translate to the recordings on your website. They sounded... overengineered? Too crisp, perhaps. Sure, there's a time and a place for slick production, but it might not be appropriate when you're building an atmosphere for Romani music, klezmer, and etc.
