Salt of the Earth

Yesterday I had a conversation with my roommate Katie regarding the California climate. Even though she's from the east coast and I'm from the northwest, we both find the weather in California slightly depressing for the same reason. Namely, there is no weather.
Katie is used to afternoon thundershowers, snow, or humidity, depending on the season. I'm used to wacky rain-on-a-clear-day, overcast days, and cool sunny days, depending on the season.

But all California supplies us with is unending heat and sun. Nothing else. Case in point, this week's weather forecasts for Seattle vs Berkeley.
The nice weather was fine at first, but now I'm dying for some rain. Or at least the chance to wear a sweater all day.

PS - that sound you're hearing right now is the world's smallest violin playing just for me.

Wow, I think the lows for Berkeley are higher than the highs for Seattle.

This post has become rather surreal as of this comment. Temps in Berkeley have plummeted to ~50deg and Seattle is close to an ice storm. Lows of 27! In Seattle! In October!

guess what happened on november 1st? snow happened. that's right! S-N-O-W. for several hours during the night and till about 10:00am. and though nothing accumulated in tacoma, one of my coworkers had a full 3 inches that stayed put on the ground until the sun melted it off! this morning i got to pull out my ice scraper, as there was a nice layer of frost on the windshield. i pulled out my scarves and mittens weeks ago, but now i am justified in brandishing them and their comfy glory!

so rad.

that snow was beautiful, and it made me miss wisconsin (now THAT's some freaking weather, people. i don't miss it often, let me tell you). so i guess if i get frustrated with the lack of weather in the northwest, you guys are probably going truly mad.

the best quick-fix solution i can think of: drive out of town to the mountains or forests a bit north or east of you, there's got to be weather going on somewhere nearby!

best of luck weathering the anti-weather climate, guys, and know that many people here are bitching that they wish they lived in SF.

You're crying about the lack of weather. In Berkeley. Try living in San Diego, you great big pansy! Right now it is a "chilly" 68 out by the coast, and everyone knows that winter is here!
