Oh, Llywood, how I adore thee.

What's the story of the shack on the rock? ("A cock in a frock on a rock..." I hope you catch that reference or I'll feel a bit silly for mentioning cock in an otherwise cock-free post)

from moviemistakes.com:

In a scene near the end of the film when Edward Norton's character is flying in the helicopter, you are shown a side view of the famous 'HOLLYWOOD' sign. However from the side the H and O are turned around so that the sign reads 'OHLLYWOOD'. In the next camera angle you see the letters straight on and they are correctly placed. [It only looks that way because the H is further back than the O, and it's filmed at an angle, so the H is visible through the gap between the O and the L.]

Sorry to add to the confusion, but the sign really *is* screwed up in the movie - it has nothing to do with the angle you're seeing it, or some letters being further back than others. Now that the DVD's out, freeze-frame it (Chapter 12), and it's plain as day. As to how they could make a mistake like that, I don't know. Maybe it's an inside joke.
Of course, the parking lot where I work has "Speed Limit 10 MHP" painted on it a dozen times in 10-foot tall letters, so I guess people can miss *anything*.
